A car slammed into construction equipment along Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach early Thursday, May 12, killing its three occupants and injuring three workers.
The collision happened along the 3000 block of PCH at about 12:45 a.m. Newport Beach police said in a news release. A Tesla Model S was traveling west when it hit a curb, then crashed into equipment on the south side of the street, NBPD spokeswoman Heather Rangel said.
Responding officers found three people dead inside the totaled car.
Debris littered the ground around a large, damaged flatbed trailer that apparently came to rest blocking the road, as investigators surveyed the aftermath of the crash. A mangled bumper rested against the blade of a nearby bulldozer.
