A mansion in the equestrian community of Nellie Gail Ranch has set the record for the most expensive home ever sold in Laguna Hills at $10.1 million.

The value has doubled in the two and a half years since it last sold, indicating how frenzied the sellers’ market is.

After listing in February, the property drew multiple offers. It sold in March at 3% above the initial $9.8 million ask. Listing agent Melody Smith of Anvil Real Estate said she doesn’t know if she will break this record-high soon.

“It’s by no means the biggest house in the neighborhood, but it’s got a very grand feel,” said Smith, who represented the sellers when they bought the house in October 2019 for just over $5 million.

Completed in 1999, the seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom mansion spanning 8,100 square feet was designed to entertain, from the interior’s double formal living rooms to the resort-style grounds.

It sits on a nearly 2-acre lot with 180-degree city and mountain views at the end of a cul-de-sac.

The sellers remodeled and expanded the house to allow the main living space to flow outdoors seamlessly via floor-to-ceiling glass walls and bi-fold doors. They also upgraded the interior surfaces and created an outdoor California room, fitted with a built-in barbecue kitchen, dining and living areas, and a TV mounted above the fireplace. The pool was moved and enlarged along with the spa.

Retaining walls support the flat backyard with a lighted sports court for tennis and basketball.

There’s a built-in fire pit sitting area for taking in the sunsets and a large grassy lawn.

Inside, it’s just as luxurious. The family room opens to the gourmet kitchen, which features a large center island with seating that opens to a breakfast area.

For formal gatherings, there’s the two-story dining room.

The primary bedroom connects to a spa-inspired bathroom with a dual sink vanity, a soaking tub, and a glass-enclosed shower with dual heads and a built-in bench.

A door at the far end of the bathroom opens on the walk-in closet.

The primary suite also offers direct access to a large balcony.

A four-car garage with a lift and approved plans for an additional two-car garage complete the property.

Denise Dyer of Firmin D. Boul represented the buyer.
