Gusty winds — some fast enough to be dangerous — and light snow are in the forecast for Southern California early this week before giving way to calmer and less-chilly weather.

The strongest winds were expected over the mountains and deserts from sunset Monday, April 11, through sunrise Tuesday, the National Weather Service said. Gusts of 50 to 60 mph were forecast, with localized gusts up to 80 mph.

Coastal areas could get gusts of 25 to 30 mph, with the swiftest forecast for Orange County.

Up to an inch of snow was forecast for the Southern California mountains above 5,500 feet for late Monday into Tuesday morning. Forecast lows for Monday night were 19 to 25 degrees in the San Bernardiino Mountains and slightly higher in the San Gabriel and San Jacinto mountain ranges.

Coastal mountain slopes could receive about a quarter-inch of rain. The chance of measurable precipitation was forecast as 20%.

Skies will be mostly sunny the rest of the week, with high temperatures expected to rise from about 70 degrees on Tuesday to the high 70s on Saturday, with the Inland Empire valleys a bit warmer.
