Foo Fighters won three Grammys a week after the death of their drummer, Taylor Hawkins. The group won kudos for best rock performance for “Making a Fire,” best rock song for “Waiting on a War” and Best Rock Album for “Medicine at Midnight” — all three categories for which the band was nominated this year.

The band did not appear at Sunday night’s ceremony in Las Vegas to accept the awards. Presenter Jimmy Jam accepted the award for best rock performance on behalf of the band and offered prayers.

On social media, fans shared their bittersweet reactions to the band winning after Hawkins’ death.

Foo Fighters winning 3 Grammys tonight just makes things all the sadder tbh. Though a lovely tribute in their own way to Taylor

The @foofighters just swept all three Rock #Grammys awards, and no, you cannot call it a sympathy vote. Congratulations! And condolences.

Fellow musicians also paid tribute, including Kings of Leon’s Nathan Followill, who said it was a “much deserved win” and that “Taylor is smiling down.”

Congrats to the @foofighters on a much deserved win. Taylor is smiling down.

Hawkins, 50, died on March 25 while the Foo Fighters were on tour in Colombia. Last week, mourners gathered at Aliso Beach to pay tribute to the Laguna Beach native.
