Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, who was introduced by Joni Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt, performed her single “Right On Time” at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night.
While Carlile has stunned during the ceremony before, her latest turn showcased not only her voice but also her piano and guitar playing skills as well. Though the stage set-up was stunning — and very Las Vegas with a pyramid of lights that switched from a soft yellow glow to rainbow colors — Carlile’s vocal remained the center of attention. Even the live audience responded as she absolutely nailed some of the highest notes.
She received five nominations this year including best Americana roots performance for “Same Devil,” best pop solo performance, record and song of the year for “Right on Time,” and song of the year for “A Beautiful Noise,” her duet with Alicia Keys.
In 2020, Carlile performed a pre-Grammy show at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, delighting the sold-out crowd with her hits like “The Story,” “Party of One” and “The Mother.”
Throughout her career, Carlile has garnered 17 nominations and scored six wins. In 2019, she was the most nominated woman at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, earning six nominations for her sixth album, “By the Way, I Forgive You,” which won best Americana album, and her single, “The Joke,” won best Americana roots song and best Americana roots performance. In 2020, she won in the best country song category for “Bring My Flowers Now,” which she co-wrote with Tanya Tucker for her comeback album, “While I’m Livin’,” which also won best country album.
