Former USC and Mater Dei quarterback JT Daniels has found his new home, and it comes with a familiar face.

Daniels, who spent the past two seasons at Georgia, will transfer to West Virginia, where former USC offensive coordinator Graham Harrell currently serves in the same position.

The redshirt junior will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at West Virginia and will be allowed to play immediately as a graduate transfer.

Daniels arrived at USC in 2018 after leading Mater Dei to a 15-0 record and high school national championship as a junior. He announced following his junior season that he would graduate from high school a year early and enroll with the Trojans.

He earned the USC starting job as a true freshman but went through growing pains his first year, completing 59.5% of his passes to go with a 14-to-10 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Prior to his sophomore season, Harrell was hired to install the Air Raid offense. Daniels again won the starting job and looked strong in the season opener, completing 25 of 34 passes for 215 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the first half.

But he tore his ACL on the final drive of the second quarter, ending his 2019 campaign in the first game. That opened the door for Kedon Slovis to have a breakout season and establish himself as the new USC starting quarterback in Daniels’ absence.

Daniels transferred to Georgia prior to the 2020 season, starting the final four games and going 4-0 in that span. In the 2021 season opener, he led the Bulldogs to a win over Clemson but suffered an oblique injury that sidelined him for a game.

He started the next two games against South Carolina and Vanderbilt but a lat injury forced him to leave the Vanderbilt game after the first quarter. As he recovered, backup Stetson Bennett took control of the Georgia starting job and went on to lead the Bulldogs to the national championship.

In his career, Daniels has completed 63.8% of his passes for 4,840 yards, 32 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

At West Virginia, Daniels is reunited with Harrell and an offense that he has already spent time learning. In the season opener, the Mountaineers will face Pittsburgh, where Slovis transferred to following the 2021 season.
