ANAHEIM — The St. Louis Blues spoiled Ryan Getzlaf’s going-away party Sunday at Honda Center, scoring four times in the second period, erasing a two-goal deficit and tuning up for the Stanley Cup playoffs next week with a comprehensive 6-3 victory over the Ducks in front of a sellout crowd of 17,446.

Or did they?

Getzlaf added one more memory for the fans to cherish with a behind-the-back pass off the rush that set up Adam Henrique’s third-period goal, setting off an extended standing ovation. As the seconds ticked down the fans began to chant, “Getzy, Getzy” and “Ryan Getzlaf.”

It was nostalgic for a little more than 20 minutes, with a full house raining thunderous cheers upon Getzlaf during a pregame ceremony in which the Ducks presented him with a golf vacation and a dune buggy driven onto the ice by Hall of Famer and franchise icon Teemu Selanne.

The Ducks even managed to build a 2-0 lead despite managing only three shots on goal and being badly outplayed in the first period. Max Comtois and Gerry Mayhew scored for the Ducks on their first and second shots on Blues goalie Ville Husso. St. Louis had the game’s first eight shots.

Ducks goalie John Gibson gets start for Ryan Getzlaf’s farewell game

Ducks goalie John Gibson preserved the lead for as long as he could but Jordan Kyrou, Vladimir Tarasenko, Ivan Barbashev and Justin Faulk scored second-period goals as St. Louis benefitted from a sustained attack that broke open the game. Gibson faced 27 shots through two periods.

Getzlaf announced his retirement Feb. 5, after 17 seasons with the Ducks. Sunday was their final home game of the season and Getzlaf said he would end his career with the cheers of the Honda Center fans ringing in his ears. The Ducks end the season with games Tuesday at San Jose and Friday at Dallas.
