Coronavirus: Orange County reported 772 cases and eight more deaths since Friday

The OC Health Care Agency reported 772 more cases of the coronavirus between Friday, April 15, and Tuesday, April 19, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 550,201.

There were 1,872 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Tuesday.

The county is now reporting updates to coronavirus-related case counts on Tuesdays and Fridays, following changes to reporting timelines at the state level.

There were 60 people reported in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus, including 10 who needed to be in intensive care units.

The county reported eight more deaths on Tuesday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 6,966.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on April 7.

Of the 6,966 deaths reported from the virus, 1,331 were skilled nursing facility residents, 701 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 539,140 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
