Coronavirus: Orange County reported 655 new cases and 24 more deaths since Tuesday

The OC Health Care Agency reported 655 more cases of the coronavirus between Tuesday, April 19, and Friday, April 22, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 550,856.

There were 2,742 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Friday, April 22.

The county is now reporting updates to coronavirus-related case counts on Tuesdays and Fridays, following changes to reporting timelines at the state level.

There were 64 people reported in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus, including 14 who needed to be in intensive care units.

The county reported 24 more deaths on Friday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 6,990.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on April 8.

Of the 6,990 deaths reported from the virus, 1,334 were skilled nursing facility residents, 701 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 539,474 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
