The OC Health Care Agency reported 159 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, April 1, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 547,126.

There were 2,282 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Friday.

There were 96 people in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus on Friday, including 14 who needed to be in intensive care units.

The county reported two more deaths on Friday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 6,886.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on March 22.

Of the 6,886 deaths reported from the virus, 1,319 were skilled nursing facility residents, 699 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 536,966 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
