Coachella 2022: Post Malone, Damon Albarn, Khalid, Metro Boomin surprise fans on Saturday night

The amount of surprise performances to end the night Saturday at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival had fans’ heads spinning.

First, there was Khalid joining Billie Eilish on stage during her headlining set on the main stage to sing their song together, “Lovely.”

Later, she brought out Damon Albarn, who many didn’t recognize at first.

Soon, they realized it was the frontman of Blur and co-founder of Gorillaz, singing “Getting Older” with Eilish.

Gorillaz are typically a virtual band, leading to some of the visual confusion. All uncertainty was over when he and Kelvin Mercer, also known as Posdnuos, from the hip hop group De La Soul, started performing “Feel Good Inc.” with Eilish.

“This man changed my life in a lot of ways and changed my complete view of what music could be and what art could be and what creation could be,” Elish said of Albarn. “My first favorite band ever was The Good, the Bad & the Queen when I was six years old. And Blur changed the world and (bleeping) Gorillaz change the world and this man is literally a genius and that’s that.”

Shortly later in the evening, Post Malone was seen joining 21 Savage to perform “Rockstar” in the Sahara tent. Producer Metro Boomin also later joined the rapper on stage for “No Heart,” “A Lot,” and a few other songs.

While some surprise guests at Coachella — like Justin Bieber joining Daniel Caesar — were teased or leaked in advanced, Saturday’s guest appearances seemed to really surprise people watching.

Also, Post Malone smashed a guitar on stage, which just added to the chaos.
