The heat kicked up a notch on Sunday, April 17, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio for the final day of the first Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival since 2019.
Sunday night was topped by Swedish House Mafia with The Weeknd, a headlining spot cobbled together after Ye (formerly Kanye West) backed out of the festival with less than two weeks to go, even though it was a bit delayed.
However, a couple of acts before the final set of the night Karol G paid tribute to Selena and other Latin music stars during her main stage set.
Earlier in the day, Yola and Orville Peck started began their residencies at the Empire Polo Club (both are also playing the Stagecoach Country Music Festival), and Surf Curse played an early main stage set dressed as the characters from “The Wizard of Oz.”
Check out all of our photos of the performers on Sunday.
One of the interesting things this year is that beyond the music, Coachella expanded its merch footprint, with exclusives on-site and online for fans that paired artists with brands.
And in other weird branding news, Doja Cat ended her main stage set Sunday night after announcing that Taco Bell was bringing back its Mexican pizza.
Sunday was also Easter, and some campers celebrated in an unusual way — with an egg toss. See more photos from the campground.
There’s also a whole part of the Coachella-verse that doesn’t even happen on site in Indio. We went to some of the pool parties and gatherings around Palm Springs on Sunday.
