Emo Nite’s performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival caused quite the social commotion on Twitter.

The duo, Morgan Freed and T.J. Petracca, remix emo and pop-punk classics.

The duo wore matching outfits that read, “We aren’t supposed to be here” across the front of their buttondown shirts as they performed at the Sahara Tent at Coachella.

During their performance, they played songs from bands like “My Chemical Romance” and “Fall Out Boy” and brought on some artists to sing their hits, including Tom Higgenson from the Plain White T’s, who sang the iconic ‘Hey There Delilah.’

Shortly after Higgenson’s performance, Emo Nite wrapped up their set.

Social media users took to Twitter to share an appreciation for the show they put on, including one of our team.

Just sang my heart out to “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” with a friend of 20 years. We have been listening to My Chem since the olden days. Emo Nite makes memories. #Coachella

Emo Nite starts with Fall Out Boy “Sugar We’re Goin’ Down”. THESE ARE MY PEOPLE. #Coachella

That Emo NITE stage was LIT AF. MY HIGH SCHOOL HEART IS CRYING.

Why is emo nite the best artist at coachella?

— (@erinnneliz) April 17, 2022

Watching Emo Nite in the Sahara Tent has been extremely carthartic

For those hating on #EmoNite at #coachella@tjpetracca and Morgan helped the genre’s resurgence. They created a new kind of concert, DJ event + throwback event. Then brought it to every city so people didn’t have to feel left out if they didn’t live in LA. @emonitela

i feel like i’m supposed to be mad at the emo nite guys playing coachella but i cant bring myself to do it pic.twitter.com/UDjFzqAXJc

every millennial at coachella got a “let’s meet up at the emo nite set” text this morning

— cool girl cruise (@CarterCruise) April 16, 2022

But not all viewers were fond of their performance. Some viewers thought they really weren’t supposed to be there.

One Twitter user went as far as calling it “bleak.”

Emo Nite being able to play Coachella by basically plugging in the aux cable is…bleak.

This Emo Nite performance is an insult to any actual artists. They are literally doing nothing. DJ is not DJing, the singer is not singing and just jumping around. What is it you say you do here? #Coachella

this Coachella emo nite thing is the worst waste of an hour timeslot at the Sahara tent. could have booked one of the dj producers who actually made any of the songs or edits

Is this what an “Emo Nite” is like? Because uh…this ain’t it and I hate it so much.

— Meghin Moore (@meghin_) April 17, 2022

Anyway, I’ve decided to turn off the terrible Emo Nite stream and watch Harry Styles slay Coachella instead in a fantastic sequin jumpsuit.
