Utah-bound pitcher Brooklyn Carreon fired a two-hitter and drove in a pair of runs to lead Whittier Christian’s softball team past Canyon 3-0 on Friday night and into the semifinals of the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Ariz.
Carreon also racked up 11 strikeouts in the quarterfinal game for the No. 11 Heralds (8-3), who play top-ranked Villa Park in the semifinals Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Mohave High.
Villa Park advanced to the semifinals with a 4-3 victory against Roosevelt, the CIF-SS Division 1 runner-up last season to Esperanza.
Tiana Poole went 2 for 3 with two RBI and Mikayla Maher scored twice for the Spartans (8-0) in the quarterfinal game.
