Tesoro’s boys and girls swimming teams remembered a racer dear to their hearts on Tuesday.

The Titans then swept Aliso Niguel to open the South Coast League.

It was a heart-felt and successful home-opener for Tesoro as it honored former teammate Jillian Abrian, 20, who was killed in September in a single-car accident in Colorado. She attended classes and swam at Colorado State University-Pueblo.

Before the meet, both teams lined the pool deck for a moment of silence for Abrian.

“It was a perfect moment,” said former Tesoro girls coach Todd Conrad, who traveled from his home in Pennsylvania for the meet. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

Conrad, now coaching at Upper Main Line YMCA near Philadelphia, also spoke at the meet about Abrian. She was a CIF-SS Division 1 qualifier as a junior and senior at Tesoro in 2018-19 and known for being an upbeat teammate.

The Titans also hung a banner dedicated to Abrian, which read in part, “Forever in our hearts.”

Abrian, 20, was a passenger in the car accident.

In the pool, Tesoro’s girls defeat Aliso Niguel 110-60 while the Titans’ boys posted a 96-74 victory.

Tesoro senior Anders Aistars outdueled teammate Jan Zika by about 1 1/2 seconds to win the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 41.72 seconds.

Zika, a junior, later won the 500 free in 4:37.30.

In the girls meet, Tesoro senior Katie Crom touched first in the 200 individual medley (2:07.55) and 100 free (52.52).

Aistars and Crom are committed to Harvard and Michigan, respectively.

SAVANNA INVITATIONAL RETURNS

Marina’s boys and girls swimming teams swept titles as the Savanna Invitational was held Saturday for the first time since 2019.

The 30th edition of the meet featured 11 varsity teams.

Marina’s boys, slotted for Division 2 for the CIF-SS meet, scored 518 points to outdistance runner-up Monrovia at 299.

Junior Winston Lee helped pace the Vikings by winning the 200 free (1:49.96) and 100 butterfly (54.20) in Division 2 consideration times.

Marina’s Division 3 girls tallied 565 points to sprint past runner-up Segerstrom (266).

Sophomore Alex Marumoto led the Vikings by touching first in the 100 butterfly (1:02.34) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.65) in Division 3 consideration times.

The Mission Viejo Invitational, which like the Savanna meet was canceled by the pandemic the past two years, won’t return this season with swimming because of a lack of entries, Diablos coach Andrew Garcia said. The meet will host diving on Friday at the Marguerite Aquatics Center.

BOYS GOLF

Crean Lutheran’s boys golf team captured the recent Ayala Spring Classic at Los Serranos Country Club in record fashion.

The Saints finished with a tournament-record score of 356 (14-under-par).

Junior Ken Shibata carded a 9-under 65 to lead Crean Lutheran’s top five scorers and claim individual medalist honors.

The Saints’ top-five group included Mark Zhang (70), Ethan Yang (71), Ted Kim (73) and Ty Kuroda (77).

BOYS TENNIS

The Trojans went 4-0 at the recent spring showcase hosted by Beckman, defeating Brentwood, Peninsula, Los Osos and JSerra.
