Temperatures are expected to warm up this week after a chilly weekend in Southern California, meteorologists said Monday, March 7.

Santa Ana winds arriving Monday brought along warmer temperatures, with most areas in the region seeing sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s to 70s during the afternoon, meteorologists said.

Winds are expected to continue through Tuesday, mostly from 30 to 35 mph in inland areas, with gusts up to 50 mph mostly through passes or mountain areas, said Samantha Connolly, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

“Beyond (Tuesday), we’re looking at a warming trend for the next couple of days into the 70s for highs,” she said.

On Wednesday, temperatures could cool down by a few degrees into the 60s for high temperatures in the Inland Empire and Orange County during a weak storm system through Thursday, she said.

In Los Angeles County, temperatures are expected to dip into the 60s during the storm system, but warm back up and later could get into the 80s, said Mike Wofford, another meteorologist.

“We just have this little storm coming in Wednesday and Thursday,” Connolly said. “Then late Thursday into Friday it’ll be more of a Santa Ana pattern, some flip-flopping a bit between Santa Anas.”

There could be some precipitation in the mountains, but not much was expected, she added.
