A Garden Grove man accused of stabbing his roommate at a sober living home was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said Sunday, March 6.

The stabbing happened Saturday, March 5, at about 10:12 a.m. in the 12800 block of Safford, said the Garden Grove Police Department in a news release. A man was found stabbed on the front lawn of the home and he was taken to a hospital, police said.

The victim went through a four-hour surgery and was listed as being in an “improving,” but critical condition as of Sunday, authorities said.

The suspect fled before police arrived, however, detectives were able to identify the victim’s roommate, 33-year-old Gustavo Pablo Munguia, as the suspect in the stabbing, police said. Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies located Munguia driving in Perris and took him into custody, the Police Department said.

While the motive was unknown, police said the stabbing happened in the shared bedroom.

Any witnesses with information about the stabbing were asked to contact the Detective Rogers at 714-741-5413.
