The U.S. Postal Service is seeking assistant mail carriers for shifts in several Orange County cities.

The agency will host three local job fairs at various branches in the days and weeks ahead. The starting hourly wage is roughly $19.

The USPS said its job fairs will help applicants create an online employment profile so they can immediately apply for jobs.

The schedule of events includes:

Wednesday, March 16: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Laguna Beach PO, 29911 Niguel Road

Wednesday, March 23: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dana Point PO, 14551 Del Prado

Wednesday, March 30: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the San Juan Capistrano PO, 28081 Marguerite Pkwy, Mission Viejo

The walk-in events will have personnel on-hand to help with any questions from applicants.

Online jobs fair looking to help veterans

RecruitMilitary and Disabled American Veterans will host an online career fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15.

The organizations say the event will connect veterans with employers seeking “military-trained talent.”

Registration is free and available online at recruitmilitary.careereco.com to all transitioning military, veterans, military spouses and dependents.

Airport sees uptick in January traffic

Winter travel saw a big uptick in January at John Wayne Airport, rising 223% compared with January 2021 when the pandemic hindered much leisure travel.

The airport reported it served 630,402 passengers in January compared with just 195,290 in the previous January.

January traffic has still not recovered to the 2020 level when JWA saw 806,386 passengers.

Other January highlights from the airport:

Commercial aircraft operations increased 73.0% and commuter aircraft operations increased 64.6%.

Total aircraft operations increased 33.3%

General aviation activity, which accounted for 68% of the total aircraft operations during January 2022, increased 20.7%.

The top three airlines in January 2022 based on passenger count were Southwest Airlines (230,713), American Airlines (95,762) and United Airlines (88,285).

Costa Mesa-based Anduril expands to Australia

Anduril Industries has expanded to Sydney, creating Anduril Australia.

The company’s Aussie team will design, develop, manufacture and market the company’s product lines. Costa Mesa-based Anduril has appointed David Goodrich as executive chairman and chief executive of the division.

Anduril, founded by Oculus founder Palmer Luckey and five partners, counts 950 employees globally. The company recently won a US Department of Defense contract for nearly $1 billion to build drone networks for Special Operations Command.

Howard M. Privette has joined Snell & Wilmer as a partner in its Orange County office. His practice specializes in securities and corporate governance litigation. He joins the firm’s commercial litigation practice group.

Vikash Jhunjhunwala has joined Santa Ana-based Western Dental as its senior vice president of finance. He comes to the company with 20 years of experience in finance and accounting, including 12 years with Aramark Corp. and Republic Services Inc. Most recently, Jhunjhunwala was vice president of finance for Athens Services, a Southern California environmental services firm.

Make-A-Wish gets 3-year grant worth $120,000

Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire has been awarded a three-year, $120,000 grant from the Sharon D. Lund Foundation.

The foundation, led by Michelle Lund, supports arts, health and wellness, human services and higher education initiatives involving child and youth development.

“We continue to find new ways to safely grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses, and this generous grant could not have come at a better time,” said Gloria Jetter Crockett, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire.

This money will allow the nonprofit to better serve wish kids and their families in Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties,” Crockett said.

New partnership will help seniors in Irvine

Age Well Senior Services has partnered with the city of Irvine to manage the Lakeview Senior Center senior lunch program and its Meals on Wheels program.

The meal program serving homebound residents in the city will transition into a five-day delivery schedule, which includes hot meals. This expansion also will increase interaction time for shut-in seniors.

Age Well also will manage the senior lunches served at the Rose Café, available Monday through Friday for fully vaccinated patrons in the dining room or outside on the patio.

Coastal Kids expanding to Irvine

The pediatric group Coastal Kids is opening a new location in Irvine at the end of the month.

The facility will offer the latest in healthcare technology, the healthcare group said in a statement.

Coastal Kids also has locations in Newport Beach and Laguna Hills.

Orange-based Illumination Foundation will host its ninth annual Chef’s Table Culinary Gala on March 27 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.

Chef’s Table, presented by Disneyland Resort, brings together renowned chefs who prepare and serve a three-course meal tableside with drink pairings. Tickets start at $1,250.

The 2021 Chef’s Table raised more than $1.3 million, helping Illumination Foundation to open its fourth emergency shelter for homeless families.
