Southern California residents experienced a short hot streak early this week, but forecasters predict a cool-off with possible rain coming soon.

For inland areas, temperatures are expected to remain above normal through Saturday. Riverside, Brea, Los Angeles International Airport and San Bernardino had temperatures in the high 80s and lower 90s Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

LAX tied its previous high temperature on March 23, 2008 of 84 degrees.

Burbank registered 89 degrees Wednesday, beating the 1953 record of 88. Big Bear’s maximum temperature registered 67 degrees, two degrees higher than its previous March 23 record of 69 degrees.

Coastal areas in Orange County are expected to have an early cool-down starting Thursday due to the marine layer and onshore flow that will extend the cooler temperatures inland early next week.

By Sunday, cooler temperatures are expected in all regions and are predicted to be back to seasonal normals. A low pressure system coming from the northwest could bring rain into the area early Monday, with the precipitation lingering into late Tuesday.

In the Inland Empire and Orange County, forecasters predict about an inch or more around the Santa Ana Mountains and the San Bernardino Mountains and about a half inch from the foothills to the coast.

Rainfall forecasts across Los Angeles County are less certain, but forecasters estimate an average of a half inch with the potential for more rainfall for south-facing foothills and mountains such as the San Gabriel Mountains.

Most early predictions from forecasters across the region estimate the rest of next week will be dry with a return to normal temperatures.
