The collision occurred about 8:15 a.m. at Newland Street and Yorktown Avenue, according to Jennifer Carey of the Huntington Beach Police Department. The teen who survived was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Carey said.

The two teens were in a 1990 Ford F-250, which collided with a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a city employee, Carey said. She did not know which department the 38-year-old employee worked in, but he escaped injury, she added.

The teen who died was Joshua Page, 18, of Westminster, the coroner’s office said, Fox 11 reported.

Since a city employee was involved in the crash, the Irvine Police Department has taken over the investigation into what caused the crash.

“I am so sorry to hear about the tragic traffic collision that took place this morning,” Mayor Barbara Delgleize said. “On behalf of myself and the City Council we wish to extend our sincerest condolences to the families impacted by this terrible accident.”
