Szechuan Sauce will briefly return to McDonald’s lineup of dipping sauces on Thursday, March 31.
But it will only be available through the McDonald’s app, according to a news release. Customers can get it free with a purchase of Chicken McNuggets or buy as many as five packets a la carte.
The condiment was launched in 1998 in a tie-in to the release of Disney’s original, animated version of “Mulan.” It created a social media stir when it was satirized in a 2017 episode of the Adult Swim cartoon series “Rick and Morty.” McDonald’s briefly brought it back in February 2018, reportedly shipping 20 million packets to restaurants.
McDonald’s describes the sauce as having “hints of soy, garlic, ginger and mild vinegar notes.”
It will come in five packets topped with gold foil, the news release said. Prices on eBay for 2018 packets start around $10 and range into hundreds of dollars.
