THE GAME: The Angels beat the Colorado Rockies, 8-2, on Tuesday at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Left-hander José Suarez gave up one run in four innings, and that scored after a playable grounder shot past first baseman Jared Walsh. Suarez struck out four and did not walk any. “I felt really confident going after the strike zone today,” Suarez said through an interpreter. He added that he has been working on his slider this spring. He has allowed one run in 6-1/3 innings this spring. … Right-hander José Marte gave up a run on two hits and two walks, while recording just two outs. Marte had not allowed a run in his first three games, making a strong push for one of the final bullpen spots. … Right-hander Archie Bradley escaped a bases-loaded jam left by Marte. He then tacked on a scoreless inning. … Right-hander Austin Warren pitched a perfect inning, striking out two. Warren has five strikeouts and one walk in 4-2/3 innings this spring. … Right-hander Oliver Ortega pitched a scoreless inning. He has not allowed a run in four innings this spring.

HITTING REPORT: Shohei Ohtani hit an opposite-field home run, his second of the spring. Ohtani is 4 for 14 with six walks this spring. Manager Joe Maddon said he’s particularly happy with Ohtani’s walks. “His strike zone is really structured right now,” Maddon said. “He’s going to play a team game. As Mike (Trout) heats up, as Anthony (Rendon) gets hotter, the pitchers are going to come to him, but in the meantime, he’ll take his walks to set up everybody else.” … Justin Upton blasted his first homer of the spring, a 432-foot, three-run blast to center field. … Kurt Suzuki hit his first homer, a two-run shot. … David Fletcher yanked a double down the left field line. Fletcher is 6 for 18 with three doubles this spring. … Jose Rojas hit his second homer of the spring. Rojas is 8 for 14.

DEFENSE REPORT: Shortstop Tyler Wade fielded a bouncer up the middle and started a double play. … Walsh, who failed to make the play leading to the run against Suarez, later made a nice play going toward the line. … Second baseman Andrew Velazquez ranged up the middle to prevent a hit, getting a force at second. … Velazquez finished the game in center field, his first appearance in the outfield this spring. He has played 16 games in the outfield in his big league career. … Third baseman Michael Stefanic fielded a grounder heading toward the line, then he stepped on the bag and threw to first for a double play.
