Orange Coast College dedicated its stadium on Saturday, March 12, in honor of longtime coach John Altobelli.

Altobelli led the Pirates for 27 season, all the way to four state championships and more than 700 wins. Now the stadium he helped renovate several years ago has been renamed John Altobelli Park.

Altobelli, along with his wife Keri and daughter Alyssa, died in 2020 in a helicopter crash that killed nine people, including Lakers great Kobe Bryant and Bryant’s daughter, Gianna. The group was on the way to a basketball game for the girls that were aboard.

The dedication ceremony was followed by the Pirates’ home game in a three-game series against Irvine Valley College.
