Huntington Beach entered the boys golf season as one of the teams to watch in Orange County.

The Oilers’ profile has only grown since.

Huntington Beach on Monday captured the Oak Park Eagle Invitational at a windy North Wood Country Club in Thousand Oaks.

The Oilers carded a score of 235 to edge Burroughs of Burbank (238) by three shots and Windward (239) by four in a tournament that featured a three-player scoring format and challenging pin locations.

“A lot of the top teams from L.A. county were there,” Huntington Beach coach Dean Yoshiyama said. “I’m very proud of how the kids showed perseverance and grit under some very tough conditions.”

Senior Edwin Lam led Huntington Beach by shooting a 5-over-par 76 to finish tied for fourth. Junior Jason Flory carded a 78 to tie for 10th while senior Shawn Williams tied for 21st with an 81.

In other boys golf results, Edison won the Southern Nevada Invitational at Anthem Country Club in Henderson, Nev. on Tuesday.

Senior Timothy Jung highlighted the Chargers’ two-day performance by carding 5-under-par 67 on Tuesday en route to the individual title.

Edison senior Troy Tarvin placed fourth.

Huntington Beach (7-1) and Edison (6-3) will meet twice in the Surf League next month.

PORTOLA’S AJ MOORE POSTS BIG WIN IN TENNIS

Air Force-bound AJ Moore of Portola picked up a big victory in Pacific Coast League boys tennis on Tuesday.

Moore handed UC Santa Barbara-bound Conrad Brown of University his first loss with a 6-4 win.

“No shame in losing to AJ as they are two of the top boys in Orange County,” University coach John Kessler said.

The seniors will be among the county’s top participants in The Ojai Tennis Tournament next month.

University, ranked No. 1 in CIF-SS Division 1, defeated visiting Portola 14-4 to improve to 12-0 overall, 4-0 in the league.

The Trojans will be among the contenders next week at the All-American team tournament in Orange County.

HUNTINGTON BEACH BOYS SWIMMING STAYS HOT

Huntington Beach’s boys swimming team defeated host Fountain Valley 110-60 on Tuesday to improve to 5-0 in dual meets.

The Oilers won all three relays and received sweeps from Finneas Palcza and Cade Cunningham.

Fountain Valley won the Capistrano Valley Relays earlier this spring.

Palcza, a sophomore, won the 200-yard individual medley (1 minute, 59.30 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.26). Cunningham, a senior, touched first in the 50 (22.16) and 100 freestyles (48.94).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Portola junior lacrosse player Jadyn Zdanavage scored a school-record 10 goals in a 13-11 victory against Northwood last week.
