A horse was struck and possibly killed on the northbound 15 Freeway in Norco Sunday afternoon. The crash led the California Highway Patrol to shut down the entire freeway near 6th Street.
A caller told CHP dispatchers that two horses were seen running in lanes just before 1 p.m.
A car hit one of the horses, leaving the animal down in lanes, according to the CHP’s incident log. Another horse may have run up an embankment on to the 6th Street bridge spanning the freeway.
Animal control officers and a forklift, presumably to lift the injured or dead animal off the freeway, were dispatched, according to the log.
By around 1:15 p.m., the shutdown led to a massive backup on the northbound side of the 15.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
