SANTA ANA – Foothill beat El Dorado last week when Garrett Davidson drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning against El Dorado pitcher Nathan Huy at Foothill High School.
On Wednesday Davidson stepped to the plate with the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning at Foothill. Huy again was on the mound for El Dorado.
And again Davidson got a hit to drive in the winning run in the Knights’ 2-1 win over El Dorado in a Crestview League baseball game at Foothill High School.
Foothill, No. 6 in the Orange County top 25, is 12-6 overall and 2-1 in league. No. 7 El Dorado is 12-7 overall and 1-3 in league.
El Dorado scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 lead that stood until the seventh. Golden Hawks starting pitcher Josh Hugh, a senior right-hander who went into the game with a 0.28 ERA, shut out the Knights for four innings. Huy kept Foothill scoreless through the fifth and sixth innings, including two strikeouts in the sixth, before walking Andrew Parker with one away in the seventh.
USC-signed senior center fielder Austin Overn pulled a triple down the right-field line to drive home Parker and make it 1-1. Then in was Davidson’s turn.
“I just wanted to drive it up and get it out of the infield,” said Davidson, a sophomore right fielder, “because I know that guy (Overn) is the fastest kid I’ve seen.”
Overn’s speed – he was an All-Orange County football receiver this past fall and in his first-ever track meet earlier this month ran the 100 in 10.73, the second-best time in Orange County this season – was not required. Davidson sent a line drive to right-center field and Overn trotted home for the 2-1 win.

Foothill coach Chris Price was not surprised that the sophomore Davidson came through again in a clutch situation.
“That guy is just a professional,” Price said. “He has a very low heartbeat, he’s very relaxed and just goes out there and puts a good swing on it.”
El Dorado’s first inning began with Isaac Cadena reaching on an error. He stole second base and on his steal of third a throw there ended up in left field to allow Cadena to score for a 1-0 lead.

Foothill starting pitcher Garrett Davidson, a junior right-hander, gave up only two hits in his five innings. Knights senior right-hander Gabriel Garcia pitched the sixth and seventh without allowing a hit to get the win.
The Knights had four singles in the second inning but failed to score as Pugh picked off a runner at first base and the Golden Hawks got the third out on a rundown between third base and home plate.
