Rock band Foo Fighters announced Tuesday it would cancel all upcoming shows following the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins on Friday while the band had been in Bogotá, Colombia preparing to perform at Festival Estereo Picnic.
“It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins,” the band said in a statement posted on its social media sites. “We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together. With love, Foo Fighters.”
Hawkins, a Laguna Beach native, was 50 years old. He leaves behind a wife, Alison, and their three children. No official cause of death has been announced, however, a preliminary toxicology report did find 10 substances in Hawkins’s system through a urine toxicology test including THC, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids, according to Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office, which released the findings on March 27.

Hawkins was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Foo Fighters by Paul McCartney last year. The band also received three Grammy nominations for its album, “Medicine at Midnight,” which was released during the pandemic, and were also set to perform at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday. Hawkins also starred as himself in the band’s horror-comedy, “Studio 666,” which was released in theaters in February.
Though drumming for Foo Fighters was his primary gig, he had several side projects including a rock cover band, Chevy Metal, the Birds of Satan, Coattail Riders and he put out a solo EP, “K.O.T.A.” in 2016.
He was also part of the newly formed supergroup, NHC, which also features Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro and Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, the latter of which Hawkins also played with in Alanis Morissette’s band prior to joining Foo Fighters in 1997.
