A woman in her 80s was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her home in Mission Viejo on Tuesday afternoon, Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

Deputies who arrived at the home in the 28000 block of Via Arriaga determined the circumstances of the woman’s death were suspicious. They began an investigation into a possible homicide. Detailed information on the suspicious circumstances was not immediately available.

The woman’s husband, also in his 80s, had been detained, but had not been placed under arrest as the investigation was ongoing, said Carrie Braun, a spokesperson for OCSD Tuesday evening.

The woman’s identity was not released given the ongoing investigation and pending next of kin notification.
