Coronavirus: Orange County reports 731 new cases, 8 more deaths, March 18

The OC Health Care Agency reported 731 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, March 18, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 544,844.

There were 129 people in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus, including 25 who needed to be in intensive care units.

The county reported eight more deaths on Friday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 6,828.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on March 13.

Of the 6,828 deaths reported from the virus, 1,309 were skilled nursing facility residents, 698 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 533,096 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
