Coronavirus: Orange County reported 155 new cases and five more deaths, March 15

The OC Health Care Agency reported 155 new cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday, March 15, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 543,587.

There were 4,993 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Tuesday.

There were 140 people in the hospital with coronavirus, including 31 who needed to be in intensive care units.

The county reported five more deaths on Tuesday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 6,783.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on March 7.

Of the 6,783 deaths reported from the virus, 1,301 were skilled nursing facility residents, 693 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 531,057 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
