The Angels have reportedly agreed to re-sign catcher Kurt Suzuki to a one-year, $1.75-million deal.
The team has not announced the deal first reported by Robert Murray of Fansided.com, which is reportedly pending a physical.
Suzuki, 38, played 72 games with the Angels last season, hitting .224 with a .636 OPS.
After Suzuki became a free agent last fall, the Angels had no obvious internal options to back up starter Max Stassi. The top two alternatives prior to the Suzuki deal were journeyman Chad Wallach and Matt Thaiss, who returned to catching just last season after playing other positions throughout his pro career.
Suzuki is a product of Cal State Fullerton and still lives full time in Southern California, so a return to the Angels would be appealing to him from that standpoint.
Suzuki was the personal catcher for Shohei Ohtani early in the season, but later manager Joe Maddon used both Suzuki and Stassi with Ohtani.
