A motorist driving the wrong way on the 605 Freeway smashed head on into another driver, killing both in a fiery crash early Friday morning in Cerritos.
Officers were called at 2:21 a.m. to a multi-vehicle collision on the 605 Freeway at South Street, said Officer Elizabeth Kravig of the California Highway Patrol.
CBS 2 reported that a driver headed northbound made an illegal U-turn on the freeway and swerved into a driver going southbound.
A CHP spokesman at the scene said one of the victims was a 38-year-old woman.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
It was not immediately known if there were other injuries.
The collision closed all southbound lanes of the freeway for several hours.
Kravig said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
