Baltimore Sun staff writers pick every game of the NFL season. Here’s who they have winning Super Bowl 56 between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California:
Ryan McFadden, reporter
Rams 30, Bengals 26: It’s hard not to root for the Bengals and their Kid Cudi loving quarterback Joe Burrow. His ability to guide the Bengals despite not having a solid offensive line has been an incredible story. However, the Rams have too much firepower on both sides of the ball for Cincinnati to contain. It’s going to be a close game, but the Bengals are going to have a tough time shutting down Cooper Kupp and Odell Beckham Jr. while Aaron Donald and Von Miller are going to be a problem for Burrow.
Mike Preston, columnist
Rams 30, Bengals 23: Cincinnati and Joe Burrow are symbolic of the craziness in the NFL this season. The Bengals went from the bottom of the AFC North to the top of the conference with an unproven second-year quarterback who was coming off a major knee injury. Cincinnati has a good chance of winning, but Los Angeles has too many stars. The Rams have a habit of showing up in big games and Cooper Kupp, Odell Beckham Jr., Von Miller and Aaron Donald will be on the biggest stage Sunday night.
Jonas Shaffer, reporter
Rams 28, Bengals 20: An overwhelming pass rush decided last year’s Super Bowl. Why not this year’s? Even if Cincinnati’s wide receivers can trouble the Rams’ secondary, Aaron Donald and Von Miller are disruptive enough to stop a couple of scoring drives. If Matthew Stafford can avoid boneheaded mistakes, Sean McVay and the Rams should get their Hollywood ending.
Childs Walker, reporter
Rams 27, Bengals 23: Neither of these teams exactly trampled its way to the Super Bowl, and neither has a long track record of success on the big stage. But the Rams were the better all-around team throughout this season, and they have the frontline defensive talent to make Joe Burrow’s evening uncomfortable. In a close game with turnovers from both quarterbacks, the Rams’ stars will be too much for the upstart Bengals.

Bengals 27, Rams 26: The Rams have clear advantages across the board, particularly a defensive line led by Aaron Donald and Von Miller that should be able to dominate the Bengals’ shaky offensive line. But there’s just something special about quarterback Joe Burrow and this Cincinnati season. While Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has played well in earning his first trip to the Super Bowl, he’s more mistake-prone than Burrow, who’s been unflappable since his record-setting 2019 season at LSU. I think Stafford throws a costly interception late in the game while Burrow takes charge in crunch time to deliver the game-winning touchdown in the final minutes.
Tim Schwartz, editor
Bengals 27, Rams 24: It’s time for a new NFL champion, and there’s no better quarterback to signify a changing of the guard than Joe Burrow. He’s been cool as a cucumber since entering the league, and having won a national championship in college without blinking an eye, I see no reason why a Super Bowl will feel any different to Burrow. Ja’Marr Chase vs. Jalen Ramsey will be worth the price of admission, but how the Rams find a way to slow running back Joe Mixon might be the key to the game. Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp will keep things close, but Burrow and the Bengals take home the ring.
