Overview: The 2022 Orange County track and field season features many athletes who will compete for CIF Southern Section and CIF State championships.
Servite senior Max Thomas was Orange County boys track and field athlete of the year after winning the 100 and 200 in the CIF-SS Division 3 finals (Mater Dei’s Domani Jackson tied the state record in the 100 as a junior last season with a 10.25, but will not compete in track this season as he graduated early and is at USC, having signed for football with the Trojans). …
The boys distance field has Dana Hills senior Jai Dawson (the reigning county boys cross country athlete of the year). Mater Dei senior Logan Lyght was the county’s best in the 110 hurdles last year at 15.08. …
JSerra junior Josh Jornadal had last season’s best boys long jump mark (22-4) in the county. Los Alamitos senior David Brok’s 15-9 was the best among county boys pole vaulters in 2021. …
Corona del Mar senior Jason Plumb had the county’s top mark in the long jump last season at 22-9. Canyon senior Travis Zavala last season finished third in the shot put and the discus in the CIF-SS Division 2 finals. …
Corona del Mar senior Caroline Glessing ‘s 12.30 was the county’s best mark in the girls 100 last season. She also is a standout long jumper. San Clemente senior Caroline Hawkes also is set for a fine season in sprints. Mission Viejo junior Emily Psarras also is a sprints/long jump athlete to watch. …
Fountain Valley senior Kaho Cichon won the girls 800 at the Orange County Championships last season with a county-best 2:11.16. The girls distance field is very deep with Canyon senior Emma Hadley, JSerra sophomore Georgia Jeanneret, Aliso Niguel junior Allura Markow, Canyon sophomore Makena Oliva, Aliso Niguel senior Emily Richards and JSerra junior Anastasia Snodgrass. …
All-County volleyball senior Kendra Duffey was the top girls high jumper in the county last season with a clearance of 5-4. Mater Dei sophomore Madison Forbes and Mission Viejo junior Jada Gatlin lead the girls long jump and triple group. Orange Lutheran senior Rebel Tuinuknafe will be among the better girls throwers.
