Orange County girls basketball received its share of respect Sunday in the seeding for the upcoming CIF State SoCal regionals.

Rosary and Orangewood Academy earned the top-two seeds in Division I while lower-division, section champions Pacifica Christian and Capistrano Valley Christian — both from the Academy League — were placed in Division II and Division III, respectively.

Rosary (16-9), the Trinity League co-champion with Mater Dei, received a first-round bye Tuesday and will play host to the Viewpoint-Weschester winner in the second round Thursday. Viewpoint won the Division 1 title in the Southern Section.

Rosary is the two-time defending SoCal Division 1 champion.

Orangewood Academy (21-9) will play host to Mount Miguel in the first round Tuesday.

Pacifica Christian (25-5), the Division 4A champion in Southern Section, claimed the No. 7 seed in Division II, one spot ahead of Division 2AA semifinalist Crean Lutheran.

The Tritons play host to Division 2AA semifinalists Santa Monica in the first round Tuesday.

The Division II bracket also opens with No. 4 Santa Margarita, No. 5 Orange Lutheran, No. 6 Sage Hill and No. 8 Crean Lutheran playing at home.

Capistrano Valley Christian (17-6), the Division 5AA champion in the Southern Section, received the No. 9 seed in Division III and a first-round game at Rancho Bernardo of San Diego on Tuesday.

Mater Dei (23-5), Orange County’s top-ranked team, didn’t get a high seed in the SoCal Open Division. The Monarchs grabbed the No. 7 seed and a trip Wednesday to No. 2 La Jolla Country Day, the San Diego Open Division champion.

Did Mater Dei believe it would be seeded higher?

“I did,” Monarchs coach Kevin Kiernan said, “having reached the semifinals (in the section Open Division) and playing Etiwanda reasonably tough and having a head-to-head win over Centennial Corona.

“But, of course, there are no easy games in the Open Division, so it is what it is.”

Etiwanda (28-0), the Open Division champion in the section, earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in eight-team bracket.

Centennial Corona, the defending SoCal champion, earned the No. 4 seed and a home game with Mission Hills of San Diego on Wednesday.

In Division V, Santa Ana, Laguna Beach and Estancia each drew road games Tuesday.
