This week’s Orange County high school girls basketball rankings.
GIRLS BASKETBALL TOP 25
(Records through Sunday, Feb. 16)
1. Mater Dei (23-4): The two-time defending CIF Open Division champion returns to No. 1 in the county after beating Rosary but faces its toughest challenge on Saturday: at Etiwanda (26-0) for a trip to the finals.
2. Rosary (15-9): Royals (0-2) will finish group play in the Open Division on Saturday by playing host to Windward (0-2) but Kaylee Byon (lower back) is doubtful to play.
3. Orangewood Academy (20-9): Spartans (0-2) close out Open Division on Saturday by playing host to Bishop Montgomery (0-2), who they lost to earlier in the season without transfers Hannah Stines and Brya Arroyo-Gillcrese.
4. Santa Margarita (16-6): Eagles have won two close games to reach Division 2A quarterfinals against visiting Culver City on Saturday.
5. Sage Hill (20-9): Division 2AA Lightning on Saturday play host to Rolling Hills Prep, who beat them at home 55-53 earlier this season.
6. Orange Lutheran (21-8): Division 2AA’s top seed on Saturday plays at Pacific Coast League champion Woodbridge, who they beat 53-28 early in the season.
7. Fairmont Prep (18-12): Huskies knocked off Alemany and Mira Costa to reach the Division 1 quarterfinals against Long Beach Poly on Saturday.
8. Pacifica Christian (22-5): Division 4A’s top seed plays host to Sacred Heart/Los Angeles in the quarterfinals Saturday.
9. Crean Lutheran (21-3): Saints ride a 15-game winning streak into their showdown at Sonora in Division 2AA quarterfinals Saturday.
10. JSerra (10-12): Young Lions would have been fun to watch in 2AA, especially considering they beat quarterfinalist Sonora.
