Noteworthy: McDonnell continued his outstanding season in the CIF-SS Individual Championships by winning the Central Division title at 182 pounds. He won all five of his matches by fall. McDonnell, ranked third in California in his weight class, advanced to this week’s Masters Meet. McDonnell this season was a Sunset League champion and finished second at the Five Counties meet. “He’s got everything,” Fountain Valley coach Brad Woodbury said. “He’s going to take you down. He’s just a tough kid.”
