Popular frozen treats brand Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt has been expanding in O.C. with stores already open in Newport Beach, Lake Forest, Laguna Niguel and Rancho Santa Margarita.
Now it will add a fifth scoop shop, opening Thursday, Feb. 24, in Irvine at The Market Place. Locals love its creamy, old fashioned recipes with comforting flavors like black cherry, blueberry cheesecake, butter pecan, cherry vanilla, salty caramel truffle and more.
John Wolikow and John Messenger are the owners of this new location.
“I grew up eating Handel’s Ice Cream as a kid in Youngstown, Ohio, where Handel’s originated,” Wolikow said . “We make the ice cream fresh every day and we never skimp on the ingredients. Opening this store in the Irvine/Tustin community is a dream come true.”
The 1,825-square foot space has ample outdoor seating for 100-plus customers. There are 48 flavors available daily and more than 120 flavors that rotate seasonally.
The brand, founded in 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio, by Alice Handel, was ranked No. 1 on National Geographic’s 2015 “The 10 Best of Everything,” an international list. Handel’s offers yogurt, sherbet, ices and fat-free choices as well as banana splits, sundaes, smoothies and other treats.
Find it: 13786-C Jamboree Road, 657-720-1507, handelsicecream.com.
