ANAHEIM — The list of scouts for the Ducks-San Jose Sharks game on Tuesday night at Honda Center was an extensive one, but one name stood out among all the rest. Bob Murray was listed on the seating chart as a scout for the Calgary Flames, and his visit to Honda Center was believed to be his first since he resigned as the Ducks’ general manager on Nov. 10.
Murray, 67, and Flames coach Darryl Sutter were teammates with the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1980s and have remained close friends. Murray lured Sutter, a former Kings coach, out of retirement to serve as an assistant coach on Ducks coach Dallas Eakins’ staff in 2019-20. Sutter then left the Ducks to become the Flames’ head coach early in the 2020-21 season.
Sutter replaced Geoff Ward, who Murray hired as an assistant coach last summer. Murray resigned one day after the Ducks announced an investigation into his professional conduct with members of the office staff, and he said he would begin an alcohol treatment program. The Ducks hired Pat Verbeek to replace Murray on Feb. 3.
