Marina finished 20-10. The Vikings, who were Wave League co-champions with Fountain Valley, were led by senior Kenji Duremdes’ 23 points.
The Vikings led the Knights 30-26 at halftime. Carlo Billings scored eight points in the third quarter, including two 3-pointers, as Foothill made 8 of its 12 shots in the quarter to outscore Marina 22-13 and take a 48-43 lead into the fourth quarter.
A variety of Knights made big shots in the final quarter. Mikey Mazurie grabbed a defensive rebound and went coast to coast for a layup. He was fouled on the play and made the free throw. Jacob Horton made two 3s in the quarter and Carlo Billings made one.
Mazurie finished with 13 points and Horton scored 10 for the Knights. Carlo Billings had a team-high seven rebounds.
Foothill coach Yousof Etemadi said the Knights play with confidence, no matter the situation.
“They’ve played in close games, we’ve had a long season and they know how to win,” Etemadi said.
It was a quick-paced game between the two teams that rely on their guards. They ran constant-motion offenses.
“We work hard in practice,” Cruz Billings said, “we run those plays, we run those sets so we know the options available. When they present themselves we find ways to get open shots.”
Foothill had a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Marina did not shoot well in the first quarter in its gym, making only 4 of 18 shots.
The Vikings got hot in the second quarter in which they outscored Foothill 22-11. Duremdes scored seven points in the quarter. Marina’s Robert Aguirre scored five in the quarter, including a deep, buzzer-beating 3, and Kylle Magdangal also scored five in period.
