Fairmont Prep’s girls basketball team continued to play the role of bracket-buster in the CIF Division 1 playoffs on Wednesday night.

Center Siyanda Salter scored off an offensive rebound and putback with 1.6 seconds left in regulation to lift the host Huskies past Mira Costa 45-44 in a second-round game.

Fairmont Prep (18-12), unranked in the final Division 1 poll, edged the No. 13 Mustangs just four days after upsetting third-seeded Alemany in the first round.

Salter, a 6-foot-3 junior, scored on a short bank shot after grabbing her own rebound in the low post. She finished with 13 points to lead the Huskies.

Senior Maddie Salud added 11 points for Fairmont Prep, which plays host to Long Beach Poly in the quarterfinals Saturday.

The No. 11 Jackrabbits beat the Huskies last season in the semifinals en route to the Division 1 title.
