The Miami Dolphins signed wide receiver and return specialist River Cracraft on Thursday.
Cracraft spent the past two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers under new Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel. McDaniel was offensive coordinator last season with the 49ers and run-game coordinator before that.
Also playing with the Denver Broncos in 2018 and 2019, Cracraft has played in 24 games with one start in his NFL career. He has totaled seven career receptions for 85 yards.
Cracraft also has experience on special teams with 17 career punt returns for 80 yards (4.7 average), three kickoff returns for 43 yards (14.3 average) and five special teams tackles (three solo).
He can compete this preseason for opportunities in the return game for Miami after the Dolphins struggled in that department after trading longtime return specialist Jakeem Grant. The Dolphins can look to relieve standout receiver Jaylen Waddle, entering his second season, from return duties. They were also largely using rookie safety Jevon Holland on punt returns in 2021.
Cracraft originally entered the NFL on Oct. 18, 2017 when he was signed to Denver’s practice squad. He went undrafted out of Washington State.
