Disneyland visitors will no longer need to wear COVID-19 face coverings on Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion, but that doesn’t mean they can leave their masks at home just yet.

Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will no longer require vaccinated visitors to wear masks indoors starting on Thursday, Feb. 17. Unvaccinated visitors will still be required to wear masks indoors at the Anaheim theme parks.

California will lift a statewide COVID-19 health and safety mandate requiring masks indoors after Tuesday, Feb. 15 as coronavirus cases related to the omicron variant continue to decline.

Local governments can continue stricter indoor masking requirements. Los Angeles County health officials will keep indoor mask requirements in place beyond the state deadline. Orange and San Diego counties will end indoor mask requirements on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Vaccinated Disneyland visitors will still need to bring their masks to the parks.

All Disneyland visitors — regardless of vaccination status — will be required to wear masks while traveling on enclosed transportation. That includes the shuttle buses traveling between the Toy Story parking lot and the theme park front entrances. The Disneyland Monorail is currently closed for refurbishment through March 6 — with no word yet if the enclosed transportation system will require masks when it returns.

Masks will not be required on the Mickey and Friends and Pixar Pals parking trams returning on Feb. 23 or the Disneyland Railroad.

Disneyland and DCA first aid stations will also require visitors to wear masks.

Walt Disney World will also drop indoor mask requirements for vaccinated visitors on Feb. 17. Masks will still be required on enclosed transportation at the Florida theme park resort — including shuttle buses, monorails and the Skyliner gondola lift system.

Keeping track of the on again, off again mask policies at Disneyland and other Southern California theme parks has been confusing during the coronavirus pandemic that is nearing the two-year mark.

Disneyland and DCA adopted mask requirements and other COVID-19 health and safety measures in April mandated by state reopening guidelines. The Disney theme parks dropped mask requirements for vaccinated visitors on June 15 when state mandates were lifted and reinstated indoor mask requirements regardless of vaccination status on July 30 amid the delta variant surge.

Southern California theme parks tightened indoor face mask restrictions in December amid state mandates issued in response to a surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations related to the omicron variant.

What’s happening now at other SoCal theme parks?

A confusing mix of COVID-19 health and safety rules that vary depending on what county you are in will determine whether you need to wear a mask indoors at Knott’s Berry Farm, Universal Studios Hollywood and other Southern California theme parks.

Theme park mask rules will vary depending on whether you are in Orange County (home to Disneyland, Disney California Adventure and Knott’s Berry Farm), Los Angeles County (Universal Studios Hollywood and Six Flags Magic Mountain) or San Diego County (SeaWorld San Diego and Legoland California).

Fully vaccinated Knott’s visitors will no longer be required to wear masks indoors once the state mandate lifts. Face coverings will be required indoors for unvaccinated visitors.

SeaWorld San Diego will drop indoor mask requirements for vaccinated visitors on Feb. 16. Unvaccinated visitors and all SeaWorld employees regardless of vaccination status will still be required to wear masks indoors.

Vaccinated Legoland California visitors will be allowed indoors without a mask starting on Feb. 16. Legoland employees will continue to be required to wear masks indoors.
