The fire started around 6:20 p.m. at 1131 North Blue Gum Street. The facility was described as being like a “giant” covered patio where the garbage and recycling company would separate items in trash, said Anaheim Fire & Rescue spokesman Stephen Peña.
The fire was no longer active by 8 p.m. and crews were going to continue to dump water onto it into the evening, Peña said.
No other nearby structures were damaged and no injuries were reported, Peña said.
The fire’s cause was unknown, he said. Peña said that fires at the facility were not uncommon due to the variety of items found in the trash.
The extent of the damage caused by the fire was not immediately clear.
This blaze was Anaheim’s second four-alarm response of the day after a large fire and blast at a suspected honey-oil lab injured two firefighters, Peña said.
