Coronavirus: Orange County reported 1,414 new cases and 60 more deaths, Feb. 9

The OC Health Care Agency reported 1,414 new cases of the coronavirus, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 528,794 as of Wednesday, Feb. 9.

There were 27,284 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Wednesday. That’s down from 47,099 reported Friday from the previous two weeks.

There were 617 patients testing positive for COVID-19 reported in Orange County hospitals, with 125 people with COVID-19 in intensive care units.

The county reported 60 more deaths as of Wednesday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 6,265.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on Feb. 2

Of the 6,265 deaths reported from the virus, 1,243 were skilled nursing facility residents, 656 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates and 19 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 454,554 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
