Starting immediately and until further notice, I’ve decided to eat more burgers. Each month I’ll eat as many hamburgers or cheeseburgers as I can, and then I’ll pick a favorite to spotlight. I gave myself this assignment several weeks ago, so I’ve already been busy.

Here are two more great new burgers to try in Orange County
First up: I’m loving the truffle crunch burger at EggBred in La Habra. Yes, it’s loaded with arugula, but hear me out.
EggBred, if you didn’t already know, is primarily in the business of making breakfast sandwiches. But they also make excellent burgers at lunchtime. (They briefly flirted with dinner but have reverted to breakfast and lunch only.)
The bun on the burgers (and most of the breakfast sandwiches, too) is a Japanese milk bun, which is about as soft and downy as cotton candy. Stuffed inside this little cloud is a fantastic smash-patty of high-quality angus beef layered with sharp cheddar cheese, a smattering of fried onion straws and dueling slathers of truffle mayo and smoked jalapeño ketchup. Plus a handful arugula. It’s a fairly small burger. You might need two. It’s really delicious.
For what it’s worth, the beer-battered potatoes might be pretty but they don’t taste that great. They taste like some sort of extrusion rather than actual “spiral-cut” potatoes. You’re better off eating another burger.
