A forecast for high Santa Ana winds has prompted cancellation of this weekend’s closure of the westbound 91 Freeway in Corona.
The closure has not yet been rescheduled, but the Riverside County Transportation Commission hopes to do so “as soon as we can,” said John Standiford, the commission’s deputy executive director.

Westbound 91 Freeway in Corona to shut all weekend at 15 Freeway
Construction work on the westbound 91 Freeway, from McKinley Street to Main Street in Corona, was set to begin Friday night, Jan. 21, at 9 p.m. and run through 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24.
“RCTC officials canceled the work to ensure the safety of construction crews, who were scheduled to place support structures over the 91 for the 15/91 Express Lanes Connector Project,” a news release issued Friday morning states.
UPDATE: Due to forecasted high winds, the closure of WB 91 in Corona planned for Jan. 21-24 is canceled. The work was canceled to ensure the safety of crews. The closure will be rescheduled as soon as it is safe to do so.

Construction on the $270 million project began in spring, officials said. The new ramp, connecting toll lanes on both freeways as a way to reduce congestion, is set to open in 2023, officials said.
