Orange County Soccer Club announced the signing of former Mexican international and Chivas forward Erick “Cubo” Torres.

Torres, 28, will be making a return to Southern California. He spent the 2014 season in Major League Soccer with Chivas USA.

“I am very happy to arrive and play with the USL champions,” Torres said. “I am excited for the season to start and to defend the Orange County jersey.”

He spent 2015-17 with the Houston Dynamo and rejoined the league in 2020-21 with Atlanta United.

“We are beyond excited to bring Cubo, a first-class professional and prolific goal scorer, to Orange County,” OCSC president of soccer operations Oliver Wyss said. “Cubo is a true winner on and off the field and our entire club and fans will welcome him with open arms as we aim to defend our USL Championship title in 2022.”

Torres represented Mexico at the youth levels (U-20, U-21, U-23) and the senior levels, making his debut in 2014.

In his club career in Mexico’s Liga MX and MLS, Torres has scored 66 goals with 27 assists

“I am excited that Erick will be joining our team,” OCSC coach Richard Chaplow said. “He brings a wealth of experience from playing at the highest level. His impressive qualities, both personally and as a player, will undoubtedly strengthen us.”

Last week, OCSC added midfielder Kevin Partida and defender Danilo Acosta.

Acosta, 24, spent the previous two seasons with the Galaxy, although he played in two just games with the first team.

Acosta had ACL reconstruction and medial meniscal root repair during training camp of the 2020 season.

He fought his way back to health and made seven appearances with Galaxy II and earned a call-up to the Honduran national team for their World Cup qualifiers.

“I’m really looking forward to giving my all to this organization, to keep us as a team at the top throughout this season,” he said. “Especially thankful for coach Richard (Chaplow) and the whole club for giving me this opportunity.”

Partida, 26, was selected by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. He recently played with Indy Eleven in the USL. He also had USL experience with Reno 1868 FC.

“Kevin is an exciting addition to our midfield,” Chaplow said. “He is always playing on the front foot. His energy and versatility will add an extra component for us and complement the players we already have.”
