Foothill boys basketball tops Villa Park for 12th win in a row

The Foothill boys basketball team pushed its winning streak to 12 games Tuesday with a 63-49 win over Villa Park in a Crestview League game at Villa Park High.

Knights senior guard Cruz Billings scored 23 points.

Foothill is 21-1 overall and 3-0 in league. The Knights are ranked No. 9 in the Orange County top 25 and No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division 2AA.

Foothill coach Yousof Etemadi said his team achieved its defensive goal against the Spartans (15-6, 1-2), who are No. 17 in the county.

“We held them under 50 points and that’s what we aim for,” Etemadi said. “Our guys were ready. We’re playing hard right now and the kids all like each other.”

Foothill plays a league game Friday at No. 22 El Dorado and faces No. 20 Aliso Niguel, Etemadi’s alma mater, in the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei on Saturday at noon. The Knights have league games at home next week against Canyon and Villa Park.

Also in the Crestview League:

No. 10 Canyon 67, No. 22 El Dorado 53: Comanches coach Nate Harrison got his 400th win. Canyon freshman Brandon Benjamin scored 17 points.

In the Trinity League:

No. 1 Mater Dei 66, No. 4 Orange Lutheran 52: The host Monarchs (20-2, 5-0) remain in sole possession of first place after the home win over the Lancers (13-8, 2-4).

In the San Joaquin League:

No. 13 Pacifica Christian 66, No. 5 Fairmont Prep 59: Parker Strauss scored 21 points with six rebounds and five assists and Dylan Godfrey scored 15 points with seven assists for the visiting Tritons (11-12, 2-3).

Myles Che scored 20 points for Fairmont Prep (13-6, 5-1), which was playing without standout senior guard Chol Deng (hip, back injuries).

In the Wave League:

No. 14 Marina 68, No. 16 Fountain Valley 50: The league-leading Vikings (17-6, 3-0) got a crucial win at home against the Barons (7-8, 2-1) to take sole possession of first place.

In the Empire League:

Tustin 56, Valencia 43: Tobey Schmidt scored 13 points and Eli Nyeazi added 12 points with 12 rebounds for the visiting Tillers (18-6, 4-1).

No. 2 Crean Lutheran 88, Cypress 59: Vyctorious Miller’s 22 points led the home Saints (18-2, 6-0) who also received 17 points from Koat Keat and 15 points from Darrell Morris.

In the Golden West League:

Garden Grove 55, Segerstrom 54: Miguel Ortega’s 18 points led the visiting, league-leading Argonauts (14-7, 6-0).

In the North Hills League:

El Modena 49, Yorba Linda 40: Drew Rodriguez scored 20 points with three 3-pointes for the home Vanguards (14-11, 2-1).
