WHITTIER — A food truck vendor in Whittier was arrested after he was caught on video vandalizing a sidewalk taco stand in a possible beef over territory, authorities said.
Video aired by ABC7 showed a man using a fire extinguisher to put out the cooking fire of Tacos la Guera in Whittier Thursday night.
Taco stand employee Armando Martinez said he was afraid the man with the fire extinguisher might punch him.
“Maybe he’s going to want to hurt me. So I kept my distance and stayed back,” Martinez told the news station.
Based on the video posted to social media and tips from the community, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it was able to identify the suspect. The man, who was not immediately identified, was arrested at his home on suspicion of vandalism.
Tacos la Guera owner Rocio Gascón told ABC7 he had been scouting the area for a week and didn’t see any other vendors at the location. Neighbors said the food truck had set up there in the past.
No injuries were reported.
